The signs your inverter is the problem

Two of those five are usually not a dead inverter — which is exactly why the diagnostic comes before the quote. A licensed technician tests the system end to end: the inverter under load, string voltages, optimizer or microinverter reporting, connections and disconnects. You get the actual fault and a written estimate. If it is not the inverter, you have not bought an inverter.

Inverters carry 10–15 year manufacturer warranties, and optimizers and microinverters often 25. We check coverage first, every time. If the unit is covered you pay diagnosis and labor while the manufacturer supplies the hardware — and because we are certified with the major brands, we file the claim ourselves rather than pointing you at a phone tree.

Repair makes sense for connection faults, cooked wiring, failed fans and single dead optimizers — modest fixes, quoted in writing. Replacement is the answer for a string inverter past its warranty with a failed board: a typical residential unit runs roughly $3,500–$4,000 installed, and chasing boards on a 12-year-old unit is money thrown after bad. Upgrading comes up when the old unit is obsolete or the original installer is gone and parts do not exist — we quote the modern equivalent and handle the utility and permit paperwork the swap requires.
